Eyeliner Week: Colored Eyeliner

I have previously mentioned how, as a child, my folicular and sartorial choices were a regular source of embarrassment to my family. In addition to my odd taste in hairdos, I combined some colors, patterns, and textures that didn’t, in a traditional sense, “go together.” I was pretty well known among elementary school teachers, daycare providers, and family friends for my penchant for stripes, florals, and neons. Mind you, this was the early to mid ’90s, and get-ups like this where considered normal; you had to be pretty unique to stand out in a sea of day-glo crop tops and swishy wind breakers. The point of all this exposition is that I have long been a fan of color and makeup, and so you should probably trust me when it comes to recommendations for colored eyeliner. Below are some of my favorites, as well as two looks I created using exclusively colored liner. Stay tuned for the final post of Eyeliner Week: a tutorial for dual-winged liner that will feature (you guessed it) more fun, colored eyeliner!

Let’s get ready to party!

So, the liners we will feature today are:

Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in Sabbath. I also love the pencil version of this, though it does apply very creamy, so you may run through the product fairly quickly.

Maybeline Master Drama in Vibrant Violet, which is a dusky greyish-purple that looks amazing on green and hazel eyes.

Sephora Long Lasting Kohl Pencil in 05 Majestic Purple, which is an opaque, matte eggplant shade. If this eyeliner was a Vietnamese sex worker in the movie Full Metal Jacket, it would wear you long time. Seriously impressive staying power.

Sephora Long Lasting Kohl Pencil in 04 Smoky Green, which has the same amazing formula as the liner listed above, but in a pleasantly cool evergreen shade.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in 17 Snakeskin Dress, which is a gold-ish green shimmery pencil that applies smoothly and makes me feel reptilian and sexy, like the female iteration of DC villain Copperhead in Batman: Arkham Origins.

Sephora Nano Pencil in 16 Azur Blue is a bright, trendy cobalt with a firm, waxy formula that sets well.

Jordana Easy Liner in Sterling Blue is a fantastic drugstore purchase. The color payoff is amazing for such an inexpensive product and the teal color flatters many eye colors and skin tones.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in 06 Blonde Ambition is a shimmery champagne eyeliner. I can see it working with a wide variety of looks, or used alone as a highlighter for my pale-skinned brethren.

I AM THE QUEEN OF SWATCHES! These appear left-to-right in the same order as listed above.

A graphic winged line gets extra oomph in forest green…

So pretty with green eyes!

…while a gradient line from cream to cobalt begs to be worn to a party.

There’s teal in the middle there. The cream extends along the inner 3rd of my lower lashline before it blends back into teal and, ultimately, cobalt.

So, take inspiration from four-year-old Nikki and dare to wear color in new and interesting ways! What are your favorite ways to introduce color into your makeup routine?
